Athletes and physical therapy patients can use video analysis at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville’s satellite physical therapy clinic at the Collierville Community Center to improve their sports game or functional outcomes.
Dartfish, a video analysis software application, allows physical therapists to analyze motion for instant visual feedback without disrupting the flow of a training session. It is often used to assist athletes and physical therapy patients in making corrections. Physical therapists use the tool to analyze a patient’s gait, which may determine when a patient can resume activity after an injury. Baptist Collierville was the first in the Mid-South to use the Dartfish technology. “We are pleased to provide Collierville and the surrounding communities with such an innovative technology,” said Bob Gwartney, director of ancillary services at Baptist Collierville. “This software can serve as a beneficial training tool for athletes, as well as a tool for some physical therapy patients during their treatment.” Many athletes around the world use Dartfish in their training routines, including various United States Olympic teams. Ninety percent of U.S. Olympic teams use Dartfish to enhance capabilities for athletes, and 138 Dartfish users won medals at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. The tool also is used by college and professional sports teams. The Wellness Center at Baptist Collierville helps patients effectively manage their wellness and rehabilitation from chronic disease, physical injury or deterioration using preventive measures, such as exercise and strengthening, healthy eating and lifestyle education. The staff comprises physical, occupational and speech therapists; a certified athletic trainer; and a certified physical therapy assistant – all of whom are trained to meet an individual’s specific needs. Baptist Collierville's rehabilitation department also offers physical therapy services at its satellite clinic at the DeSoto Athletic Club, located at the Collierville Community Center. This clinic serves as another place for patients to receive high-quality physical therapy close to home. With referral from a physician, Baptist Collierville also offers rehabilitation for work-related injuries, sports injuries, tendonitis, joint replacement and stroke, as well as musculoskeletal problems.
