Mid-South Hospitals Partner to Protect Patients' Health
All Memphis-area hospitals have joined forces to create the Come Clean initiative. As part of the program, we’re becoming more transparent with you – our patients, visitors and the community – about how we protect our patients’ health. Our doctors, nurses and other health care staff are committed to practicing proper hand hygiene, so they wash their hands before entering and after leaving patient rooms. We’re encouraging our patients and their loved ones to ask questions if they’re unsure about whether or not their caregivers have done so. We also have posters, stickers and brochures about the Come Clean initiative in our ICUs.
Studies show proper handwashing has a significant effect on patients’ health. Many patients recover faster because they are less likely to get sick while in the hospital. We encourage you to practice proper hand hygiene because many of the organisms we strive to protect patients from – including MRSA – are brought into patient care areas from outside our hospitals. If you’re visiting someone in the hospital, don’t forget to wash your hands before entering a patient room.
Practicing proper hand hygiene can keep you healthy even if you’re not a patient. Remember to wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer before and after eating, and after sneezing, coughing, or using the restroom. We all can do our part to make our community healthier.
