Baptist Rehabilitation-Germantown patients average a 23.9 point improvement from admission score to discharge score in the most widely accepted functional assessment measurement in use in the rehabilitation community, the FIM™ score. This score is higher than both the regional and national averages.
The FIM™ instrument is a measurement of severity of disability. It utilizes 18 items measured on a 7-level scale from dependence (1) to independence (7). These items are measured upon admission, throughout the patients' stay and at discharge and allows us to track and measure outcomes. The goal is to demonstrate an overall increase in the FIM score and steady change throughout the stay.
FIM scoring takes into account factors such as safety risks and whether a helper or assistive devices is needed. The 18 measurement categories are:
