Baptist Welcomes New Oncologist/Hematologist
Baptist North Mississippi welcomes Paschal Wilson, M.D., to its staff of highly qualified physicians. Wilson recently joined Dennis Morgan, M.D., at The Family Cancer Center.
After receiving a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Mississippi, Wilson earned a medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson and remained there to complete an internal medicine residency. He then entered fellowship training in hematology/oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he also served as chief fellow. Wilson has served as an assistant professor of medicine at U.T. Southwestern since 2002.
“Dr. Morgan has built a busy practice, and I feel privileged to be joining him and the other physicians of The Family Cancer Center,” said Wilson. “The clinical facilities here in Oxford are state-of-the-art, and we’ll be providing all the same services that I was able to offer in my university practice. I think it’s important that cancer patients, who are already dealing with the unique mental and emotional impact of the disease, realize that they don’t have to also deal with the inconvenience of traveling hundreds of miles for treatment.”
Besides cancer care, Wilson specializes in hematology, or the treatment of blood disorders.
“I’m excited to be back in Mississippi, and especially happy to call Oxford home,” said Wilson. “This town is a special place, one that offers a quality of life I’d been missing in Dallas.”
Wilson and his wife, Julie, have one son, Paschal III.

Baptist Offers Discount On Diagnostic Heart Test
Baptist North Mississippi is offering HeartScore™ – a test that can detect heart disease before symptoms appear – for $99 during the month of September 2004.
HeartScore is a special noninvasive computerized tomography scan of the heart that measures the amount of calcium in the coronary arteries. The amount and density of the calcium determine your calcium score. Recent research has shown a direct correlation between the amount of calcium in the coronary arteries and the likelihood of a future heart attack. HeartScore is appropriate for men and women, ages 40 to 70, with certain risk factors – family history of heart disease, smoking, high cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle, overweight, high blood pressure, high stress levels and diabetes.
Patients do not have to have physician’s orders to receive the screening. However, payment and the name of the patient’s physician for follow care are required before the examination. Insurance claims will not be filed. Medicare and most insurance companies do not pay for HeartScore.
For more information, please call (662) 513-9600.
