Byars Named Fellow of the American College of Surgeons
Dr. Walker Byars was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons at the American College of Surgeons’ 91st Annual Clinical Congress held October 16-20, 2005, in San Francisco.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons is a medical professional who has passed a set of criteria for education, qualifications and ethics required to join the American College of Surgeons.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons founded to improve the quality of care for surgical patients by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.
Members of the American College of Surgeons are referred to as "Fellows." The letters FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) after a surgeon's name mean the surgeon's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.
Byars is a board-certified general surgeon at the Surgical Clinic of North Mississippi and is active member of the medical staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He specializes in surgical procedures for endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, weight loss surgery including Lap-Band® and breast surgery.
