Baptist North Mississippi Named Among Best Places to Work
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, along with the other four Baptist Memorial Health Care hospitals in Mississippi, was named among the best places to work in a contest co-sponsored by the Mississippi Business Journal, Trustmark National Bank, Mississippi Development Authority, SuperTalk Mississippi radio and Time Warner Cable Business Class.
Baptist – the hospitals entered as one group – was the only acute care organization named as a finalist in the mega-large category. To become a finalist, at least 1,000 employees had to complete surveys about working at Baptist. In just two and a half weeks, the necessary number of employees at all five Baptist hospitals completed the surveys.
“Personal and professional opportunities here are endless,” said Barry Wolfe, human resources director for Baptist North Mississippi. “Baptist always strives to enhance the care it provides, and at the same time, give employees the motivation and encouragement to achieve their goals.”
Baptist’s Mississippi hospitals employ more than 3,500 health care workers, and their pay and benefits are very comparable with other hospitals in the North Mississippi market. In addition to offering highly competitive salaries, Baptist offers its employees tuition reimbursement, employee referral bonuses on select positions, a retirement program that gives two dollars for every dollar employees contribute and other perks. Baptist employees also have the opportunity to work with leading-edge technology, including high-tech simulation equipment, to help them learn new skills and refresh existing knowledge without affecting patient care.
There are five Baptist-affiliated hospitals in Mississippi located at Columbus, Oxford, Southaven, New Albany and Booneville. Each hospital offers a variety of services, including 24-hour emergency care. Although each is affiliated with Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp., each is governed by its own board of directors and locally administered to help the hospital stay attuned to community needs. Baptist North Mississippi Adds Hospitalist
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi is pleased to welcome hospitalist Dr. Ehsan Durrani to its staff of highly qualified physicians.
Durrani joins hospitalists Drs. Kelton Pace, Lynne Greene and James Thompson. Hospitalists are specialists who treat patients throughout their stay in the hospital and work with patients’ primary physicians to coordinate care. The goals of the hospitalist program include greater convenience for patients, enhanced interaction with physicians and more timely care. Patients treated by hospitalists typically have shorter hospital stays and spend less money on treatment.
Durrani completed a residency in internal medicine from the Long Island College Hospital and the Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in New York. In 2004, he completed an additional residency in neurology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Before coming to Baptist North Mississippi, Durrani served as a hospitalist at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.
Baptist Welcomes New Radiologist
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi welcomes Dr. William Keith Lawrence, a radiologist, to its staff of highly qualified physicians.
A native of New Albany, Miss., Lawrence received an undergraduate degree from The University of Mississippi and a medical degree from The University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, Miss. He then completed a residency in radiology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Ky.
“The opportunity to help build the radiology program at Baptist is exciting,” Lawrence said. “When you consider the talented physicians and support staff already in position, the leading-edge technology, the strong referral potential and the beautiful facilities, the potential for growth seems unlimited.”
Lawrence has been in private practice in Olive Branch, Miss., since 2004. He is married to Rebecca Lawrence.
Baptist North Mississippi Makes Donation in Memory of Former Employee
Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi made a $1,000 donation in memory of Michelle Villella, a nursing student and former Baptist North Mississippi ER employee, to the Associate Degree in Nursing Class of 2006 at Holmes Community College. Villella was killed in a motor vehicle accident in October 2005. The money will help support the Class of 2006 Education Fund for Michelle's infant son, Brannan Griffin. Human resources director Barry Wolfe, clinical educator Monica Loden and Chaplain Steve Edmonds presented a check from the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation Employee Emergency Assistance Fund to the Class of 2006 and nursing faculty from Holmes Community College during a luncheon held in the school’s honor on Feb. 24.
