Through our hospice services, we provide care to terminally ill patients in their home environment. Beyond pain management related to end-of-life issues, Baptist Hospice takes an interdisciplinary approach to care by meeting the physiological, sociological, educational, spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families.
The interdisciplinary team, guided by the patient's attending physician and hospice medical director, may include registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, a chaplain, physical therapists, bereavement counselors, a speech pathologist and volunteers who enable terminally ill individuals to live their lives where most want to — in their own homes surrounded by family and friends.
Hospice care relies on nurses and caregivers, but even with qualified professionals and family members, the hospice program could not run smoothly without volunteers. Hospice volunteers can serve in many ways by offering companionship and providing support to family members.
Because of our commitment to the continuum of care, Baptist Hospice offers bereavement assistance to families for 13 months after the death of their loved one. Bereavement social workers are available to walk families through their grief process, and several different types of grief programs are available free of charge to grieving community members of all ages.
A memorial service is held once a year for Baptist Hospice families. During this service, family members can publicly acknowledge their loved ones, memorialize them and care for themselves. It is also an opportunity for the hospice staff to remember and pay respect to the patients they have cared for and to whom they have grown close.
Hospice care for patients in need is made possible by contributions from the community, an endowment fund from the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation and fund raising efforts. If you would like more information about the work of the Foundation or wish to make a contribution to the hospice fund, please call (901) 227-7121 or (800) 895-4483, or you may go to the secure online donation site. Thank you for your generous support.
