Safe Sitter program

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City offers Safe Sitter program
On June 1 and 2, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City offered the Safe Sitter program – a medically accurate program that teaches adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children.

The goal of Safe Sitter is to reduce the number of avoidable and unintentional deaths among children while they are in a babysitter’s care. Safe Sitter has trained thousands of adolescents across the country to handle life-threatening emergencies. During the course, certified professionals instruct students and provide them with hands-on training in basic lifesaving techniques to prepare them for action in a crisis. Safe Sitter participants also receive helpful tips on everything from safety and security precautions to information on child development to make them more confident caregivers. To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students must pass both a practical and written test to show they have mastered the key concepts of how to handle an emergency situation.

This year’s graduates include Jordan Albright, Hannah Baggett, Kay Burton, Libby Carpenter, Molly Carpenter, Mary Lawrence Critchlow, Millie Critchlow, Megan Hightower, Alex Lamberger, Morgan Laster, Lena Moore, Brea Moran, Alex Parks, Andrea Pickard, Taylor Pruett, Kimberly Schwartz, Aranda Tate and Becca Wisdom. Special guests in attendance were Garrett Ward, 5-year-old son of Kara Ward in public relations, and Donna Sylvester, grandmother to Luke Bing, 7-month-old son of Eric Bing, who works in the lab.
