Is it possible to pack relaxation, exercise, time management and problem solving into
a 20-minute fitness walk? Heres how!
Why not optimize your fitness walk and become more energized, organized
and relaxed in a short 20 minutes? During the first five minutes of your walk, free your
mind of those nagging little worries that accumulate and cause stress. Breathe deeply and
concentrate on your surroundings. Try identifying plants and flowers in your neighbor's
landscaping as you pass by. Listen to the little everyday soundsbirds calling, dogs
barking, children laughing.
Once you have begun to unwind, think about your day ahead. Prioritize the
list of things you need to get done, such as grocery shopping, birthday gifts for loved
ones, paying bills, preparing meals or telephone calls. Decide on at least one item you
can drop from the list. Put off phone calls or paying bills for one day and fill that time
taking your children and spouse to the ice cream parlor, the movies or the zoo.
Prioritizing the day's activities often helps you focus on what is most importantthe
time spent with your family will never be regretted.
Do you have a challenging situation that has you stumped? Start with the
five-minute relaxation technique as you walk. As your mind becomes free from worries, you
can more easily brainstorm alternative ways to solve your problem. Perhaps you are
stressed out over personal finances. List possibilities for re-arranging your finances or
providing more income. Make a promise to yourself to follow up with one action step that
will decrease your debt. Even paying off the smallest, hundred-dollar balance will make
you feel successful. Oftentimes, just knowing that you have alternative solutions will
reduce stress and help you to feel more relaxed.
It's east to optimize your walk and make it work for you. By using the
time wisely, not only will you look and feel great physically, you will also feel more
successful.
