Germantown, Tenn., July 12, 2000 - New Bethel M.B. Church, 7782 Old Poplar Pike at Southern in Germantown, in partnership with Baptist Memorial Health Care, would like to invite area residents to a community health fair on Aug. 5, 2000, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
"The event kicks off an exciting week for our congregation as we anticipate moving into our newly constructed church on the property on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000," said Rev. Donald R. Ester, pastor of New Bethel. Tours of the church will also be given at the Fun & Fitness Health Fair.
Baptist Memorial Health Care will offer health screenings including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, height, and body mass index. Dr. Mia Boyland-James will offer vision screenings, and the Sickle Cell Foundation will provide sickle cell screenings. Persons having their glucose levels tested will need to fast for two hours before the screening.
More than 25 organizations and businesses will be represented at the event, offering health and safety information and health screenings. The following organizations will be present: Baptist Memorial Hospital - Collierville, Baptist Wellness/ Nutrition, Baptist Memorial Hospital - East, Baptist Stroke Awareness, Nellie Harriett Center for Health, Dr. Winston Burke, American Diabetes Association, Sickle Cell Foundation, Dr. Mia Boyland-James, SNAP, American Heart Association, Mid South Organ Donor Foundation, YWCA, American Cancer Society, Allstate/Rod Lovelace, March of Dimes, Alzheimer's Association, and S.T.A.A.R.S., a support group for breast cancer survivors.
The children's area will include pony rides, face painting, dental checks and a moonwalk. The Germantown Police Department will also be on hand to do children's picture identification cards.
