Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 1, 2000 - The behavioral health division of Baptist Memorial Health Care will host Senior Outlook 2000 on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd.

During the annual day-long conference, speakers will address common misconceptions about aging and the most current medical, pharmacological and psychiatric treatments and their uses. Information on community resources will also be provided.

"It's important to know the difference between the normal aging process verses common misconceptions about aging because it could make the difference in a person receiving the proper medical or mental health treatment," said Judy Crislip, director of Baptist Behavioral Health.

Event speakers include Ashok Rao, M.D., The Normal Aging Process; Joye Lee-McNelis, Wellness: Relationship to Longevity and Quality of Life; Richard Nance, Pharm. D., Pharmacology for Seniors; Robert Buchalter, M.D., Psychotropic Medications for Seniors; Elbert Jefferson Jr., J.D., Housing Trends: Availability and Affordability; and Ruth Reyes, R.N., How Learning Styles Change As We Age.

Area health care professionals will receive .5 continuing education credits and/or 5 Tennessee Nurses Association contact hours for attending the conference. The conference will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m. A complimentary lunch will be served.

The conference is free for all Baptist-affiliated health care professionals and $25 for all other attendees. For more information about Senior Outlook 2000 or to register, call (901) 227-4576 or (800) 238-6893 ext. 74576. Early registration is recommended because of limited seating.
