Memphis, Tenn., May 17, 2001 - Stephen C. Reynolds, president and CEO of Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp., recently was elected to the board of directors of VHA Inc., a nationwide network of more than 2,100 leading community-owned health care organizations and their affiliated physicians.
The VHA alliance comprises 27 percent of the nation's community hospitals, including many of the nation's largest and most respected institutions. VHA offers programs and services to improve financial and clinical performance, and as a cooperative distributes income annually to members based on their participation.
Reynolds also serves as chair for the National Committee for Quality Health Care, and he is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives. In addition, he served as chairman of the Tennessee Hospital Association from 1989 through 1990 and chairman of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce in 1997. He now serves as a member of the boards of Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp., Ducks Unlimited Inc. and the University of Memphis.
Reynolds has served as president and CEO of Baptist since 1994. He joined the organization in 1971 as an administrative resident and has held several executive positions during his 30-year career with Baptist. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in science from Arkansas State University and earned a master's degree in health administration from Washington University School of Medicine.
Baptist Memorial Health Care, based in Memphis, Tenn., is one of the largest non-profit health care systems in the country, encompassing all facets of health care through its system of 17 hospitals, minor medical clinics, 2,600 affiliated physicians and the Baptist College of Health Sciences.
