- In conjunction with American Heart Month, Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women will offer free cholesterol and cardiac risk screenings on Friday, Feb. 13 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Dr. Sam P. Patterson Library, located in the hospital at 6225 Humphreys Blvd.
The cholesterol test will measure total cholesterol, as well as HDL and LDL levels. The cardiac risk screening consists of a variety of questions about lifestyle, family history and other factors to determine a person’s risk for heart disease.
It is recommended that individuals fast prior to screenings for more accurate results. However, those taking medications or with certain medical conditions should consult their physicians first.
The Dr. Sam P. Patterson Library, housed in Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, is a community-oriented health and wellness library open to patients, physicians and the community. With more than 2,000 items, including books, videotapes, audiotapes, CD-ROM programs and periodicals, as well as Internet access and three private stations for viewing videos or Web sites, the Patterson library provides a variety of outlets for the latest health news.
