Collierville, Tenn., April

- Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville recently hosted several events to honor the volunteers who work at the hospital.
Volunteers were treated to a pancake breakfast at the hospital on April 20 where members of the hospital staff served them. Baptist Memorial Health Care then hosted a luncheon on Thursday, April 21 at the Holiday Inn at The University of Memphis to honor the volunteers who work in its metro-Memphis hospitals. Fifty volunteers from Baptist Collierville attended the event.
At Baptist’s metro-Memphis event, each volunteer was given a gift and was recognized for the number of hours they volunteered in 2004. Special musical performances and a magician from Sparkman’s Magic provided the entertainment.
“We show our appreciation to our volunteers every day, but we especially wanted to highlight them during this week, National Volunteer Week,” said Janet Ivey, manger of volunteer services at Baptist Collierville. “They work so hard, and our hospital just wouldn’t be the same without them. We can never thank them enough.”
Baptist volunteers perform many tasks, including working in hospital gift shop, patient care areas and at information desks. The volunteers also deliver mail and flowers, greet visitors and volunteer in various departments of the hospital. Experience Critical volunteers, a new group at Baptist, work in the emergency room to help make families and patients more comfortable, give updates to families and assist the staff.
