The new navigator will provide support, education, one-on-one counseling and support groups for the approximately 4,500 breast health patients treated at the hospital annually.

The funding will allow for more community education through health fairs, seminars and presentations. Also, the breast health program will be able to offer more quality care initiatives related to breast health, such as self-scheduled screening mammograms, pain management, quicker turnaround time for biopsy results, and coordination of new technology to support the program.

“This funding will allow Baptist North Mississippi to continue providing high-quality care and compassion for our breast health patients and their families,” said Dawn Lipscomb, director of the Baptist Centers for Cancer Care. “We will also be able to continue educating the community about the importance of breast self-exams and breast health in general.”

Baptist North Mississippi is a 217-bed hospital in Oxford, Miss., that offers a variety of services including cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, home care and hospice and a 24-hour emergency room. A recent expansion project brought a new emergency department, additional surgery suites and patient rooms and enhanced outpatient services.
