Programs

BMHCC understands that the success of society rests on the good health of its people. We also recognize that we are in the unique position to help impact that success by improving the health of the communities in which we operate. To do so, we have decided to dedicate our resources to those causes/issues in which we have considerable expertise and where we can make a difference.

The following guidelines outline the programs that Baptist is most likely to support. They all focus, at some level, on improving the health and welfare of people in the Mid-South communities that our hospitals serve.

Health and Human Services

The health and well-being of citizens is a vital concern for Baptist. We are specifically concerned with providing high quality health care services to the areas of the community with the greatest need and the least access to health care. For this reason, we tend to fund:

  • partnerships with community-based organizations that provide health care services and education to the working poor and uninsured
  • programs that focus on education/prevention of heart disease, hypertension, cancer, diabetes and obesity.


Education

As a leading-edge, research-oriented hospital system, we value sound education and excellence in the areas of math, science and health care. More specifically, we support programs that:

  • focus on math, science and health care related subjects, K-12.
  • encourage students, especially men and minorities, to pursue nursing and other health related areas as their career of choice.
  • involve our physicians and employees as resources and/or mentors.


Community

Although arts and culture and civic initiatives are not our primary areas of focus, Baptist does recognize that our communities have a wealth of needs beyond health care. As such, we will make a limited number of grants in these areas in those communities where we operate.



Eligibility

BMHCC awards grants to organizations that have been approved by the IRS as 501(c)(3) charities and government institutions, such as schools and libraries.

We target our support to specific projects or programs that add value to the scope of services offered by an organization. Our grants are seldom used to support operating costs or capital campaigns. Preference is also given to organizations that have a broad base of funders and employee involvement.



Restrictions

BMHCC does not fund:

  • organizations which do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
  • individuals
  • religious institutions unless the request is to support a health care initiative that is open to the whole community
  • organizations with a limited constituency, such as fraternal, labor or veteran's groups, travel by groups or individuals
  • national conferences, sports events and other one-time, short-term events
  • sponsorships that provide marketing and/or advertising benefits
  • courtesy advertising in journals or newsletters
  • anti-business groups
  • team sponsorships or athletic scholarships




Application Procedures

Organizations wishing to be considered for charitable contributions, in-kind donations and free health screenings must review our giving guidelines and submit an application online.

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • name, address and telephone number of the organization
  • contact person and title
  • background information including history and purpose of the charity
  • copy of the IRS exemption letter verifying 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
  • latest audited financial report or a financial statement
  • current operating budget and sources of income
  • list of names and professional affiliations of board of directors and trustees (where available)


Proposals should include the following information regarding the particular program for which funding is being sought:

  • purpose and objectives of the program
  • needs being addressed
  • plan of action and time frame
  • qualifications of program's staff
  • total funding required and projected resources
  • the amount requested
  • how the project's success will be determined/measured
  • recognition of the Company's support


Applications are accepted at any time and are reviewed in a timely manner. You will receive a response within 90 days from receipt of your proposal.

Proposals funded in any one year are not assured of future funding. If renewed funding is desired, the organization should submit additional requests the following year.
