The memories of loved ones are living on through the gift of life at the Memphis Botanic Garden where a special memorial garden has been created to allow families of Baptist Trinity Hospice patients and other donors to honor the lives of loved ones they have lost.
Located next to the Japanese Gardens, this area was cultivated in the spring of 2001 with the help of the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, which provided the initial funding and volunteers. The project offers donors the opportunity to designate beautiful living memorials to their loved ones. Plants symbolize hope and the renewal of life, and many find this way to be therapeutic in remembering those they have lost.
From March until the first of November, hospice volunteers maintain the garden and host spring and fall plantings. The garden is now funded by donations from family members of former hospice patients and others who use the garden as a way to grieve. Organizations and school groups also volunteer to maintain the garden. The project is open to all who want to help, and visitors can see the garden throughout the year when they purchase admission to the Memphis Botanic Garden.
