The Baptist Clinical Research Center, started in 1989, is a hospital-based research center that conducts patient studies called clinical trials (research protocols) to help develop leading-edge medical care for patients. These trials often progress through several phases to prove treatment and medication effectiveness and safety before being approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The BCRC is funded in part by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, as well as organizations initiating trials.

The BCRC staff includes clinical directors, research nurses, a research pharmacist and data managers. To keep abreast of new developments and trends, all BCRC staff are members of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). Staff members also have earned certification as clinical research coordinators (CCRC) through the ACRP, demonstrating their expertise in this area.
